His name is Richard Pegue, and while he may have a funny name, he is still the next record producer to get the Eccentric Soul spotlight shined on him. On November 8th, 2011, a tribute to this truly eccentric personality finally appears as The Nickel and Penny Label drops officially into the 039 slot in your Numero record shelf. In Chicago, Pegue was always on the fringes of household-name status. Through his radio shows, charity work, activism, or advertising he was never quite out of the spotlight. His greatest creative achievement remained hidden, however… a dozen singles issued in the late 1960s and early 1970s to limited fanfare. He was successful, but more artistically than financially, and his fortune was found elsewhere. Tragically, Pegue passed on suddenly while we were assembling this exhaustive look at his productions, adding greater meaning to the final product.
