Yesterday morning we got a call from a guy we’d been looking for over the last month. We’d called every Clarence Pinckney in the state of New York with no results and finally just started letter bombing the state. Pinckney sounded tired, and opened with the question, “Are you guys going to be there in about two hours? I’m 97 miles away.” Of course we’d be there. Pinckney is perhaps best (un)known for “reach Out” by the group Tickled Pink, whom he led and played saxophone for in the late ’60s and early ’70s. We’ll be doing a larger piece on the group soon, but for now, check out this performance Pinckney did in our kitchen of Bill Wither’s classic “Ain’t No Sunshine.”
