Numero Group: By The Numbers

Party Starter: Clue 2

In the midst of all this Codeine madness, you wouldn’t believe that we’re already six months past it on the release schedule. The upstairs A&R department is putting the finishing touches on a Medusa LP, 2x45s by Pretty, Cave Dwellers, and Wicked Lester, a quartet of Shoes LPs, a 3LP Bandit box set, an LP/CD from Alphonso Lovo, and our big fall box set: Code Name: Party Starter.

The above picture is of an unexpected load of tapes we received from Mel Turnage. Mario spent ten hours in a car yesterday driving back and forth to St. Louis to pick up what we thought were two tapes. Imagine our surprise when it was closer to twenty! Turnage produced a number of groups in St. Louis, including Moods, Sir Sidney Wallace & the Bel Airs, Gwen Thames, and Sign Of The Times (who’ll be getting their own unreleased 45 outside the Party Starter set). While Turnage was stationed at Fort Ord outside Monterey, California, he played guitar and produced a 45 for a group made up of high school students and base rats. Got any guesses? Leave them in the comments field. We’ll be unveiling the contents of the box beginning on August 1st, alongside pre-order details. This is definitely the most elaborate set we’ve ever made, so keep your browser open on this page for more details in the coming weeks.

Fort Ord? Would that have anything to do with The King Casuals and/or a young Jimi Hendrix?
