Since 2009, the Numero Group’s Michael Slaboch, along with Rob Hatch-Miller and Puloma Basu, have been hard at work on a documentary about the illustrious Syl Johnson. From the unveiling of Numero’s 2010 Grammy-nominated box set, Syl Johnson: Complete Mythology; to producing sold-out Syl shows all over the country; to gardening with Syl at “the house that Wu-Tang built!”….it’s been a crazy ride, to say the least. Learning about Syl’s life through his songs and his stories offers a unique opportunity to consider the history of racial politics in America, the complexities of the music business, and issues of creative ownership and compensation.
Rob and Puloma are launching their Kickstarter campaign today and they hope you can help them reach their goal. Thanks to dedicated friends and volunteers, they’ve been able to make it more than halfway through production on their own personal funds. At Numero HQ, we’re excited to see this movie project come to fruition.
Thanks in part to so many talented and generous people, they’ve got t-shirts, tote bags, posters, limited edition art, a DJ mix, Syl’s records, music festival passes, and much more as incentives for your support.
