At othersounds.com, there is a nice interview with Prince Heskiyahoo, bassist for the Soul Messengers. The Israel-by-way-of-Chicago group was one of several transplant funk acts profiled on Soul Messages from Dimona (Num-021). The story of how a few hundred African-Americans from the Midwest ended up in the desert of Israel is quite a spectacular tale, and while our extensive liner notes offer great insight into the Hebrew Israelite community, it is nice to get a first-hand account of this journey from one of the artists who helped lead the migration.
