Mail order customers should be all too familiar with the Numero Group tradition of including sports cards of all vintages and varieties into shipments. To the best of our abilities, we send cards that coordinate with a customer’s geography and projected sports team of preference. This can be tricky, as sports allegiances can be difficult to gauge in places that have no teams (Kentucky, Rhode Island) or too many teams (California, New York). But when sending cards to Jeff “Chairman” Mao of seminal rap magazine/fan site Ego Trip, your best bet is to find an athlete who doesn’t rap but has a rapper name.
Enter Doug Weight, journeyman above-average center whose rookie year with the New York Rangers found him standing on some rocks for some reason. We thought it was a funny scene, and a hefty name that could have certainly found its way onto a Empire State mix tape of some fashion. Because who touches more ice than Doug “Pushin'” Weight? Mao thought it was at least decent enough to appear on the Ego Trip blog, which is an honor for us, possibly Doug.
