Numero Group: By The Numbers

Individual Codeine Albums Available Now Via Our Web Store

It’s been a productive day around here at Numero HQ as we moved more and more Codeine box sets out our door, while ruining the suspension of Mark’s (our mail-man and one-time Chicago House DJ) mail truck. Packing the van to the brim, we’ve been keeping up with our on-going effort toward reducing the agency’s unsustainable deficit by continuing to churn out ridiculously large box-set’s for your loyal eyes and ears.

In addition to that, we also received a shipment today of the individual deluxe edition’s of the group’s LPs that are loaded to the brim with bonus unreleased material, 16 page booklet and CD. They are available now via our web-store, here.

Lastly, the young-guns over here at the office have been busy purging themselves of their own personal trading card collections of yesteryear. While Zach’s basketball commons have been slowly funneling world-wide for the past few months, intern Danny “Mario” Ross came through today with two three-ring binders full of DC and Marvel Comics trading cards. Watch your current orders because you may find yourself a Dr. Doom or Night-Crawler hologram intertwined between some Numero goodness.

Meet Sean

Today was summer intern Sean’s last day. He spent it in the back culling through museum gift shop phone numbers, smiling all the while. His pleasant over all demeanor mixed with an enthusiasm for all things banal places him in the Top 20% of past Numero interns. Meaning: if someone called for a reference I’d have a hard time not saying anything nice about him.

When he told us his last day would be this Friday, we promised him lunch. Alas, his arrival at 12:27 found us already finished with lunch and out of luck. Sean, we owe you one.

When last we heard from our trusty ex-intern Ben Cronin, he was falling into a pile of boxes. After leaving behind his Planet Earth DVD box set, Crony (as he was affectionately called) headed back to Colorado College to finish his undergrad degree in rock climbing and business management (we think). We loved his goofy, pot-haze antics and his willingness to do almost anything. So imagine our surprise when our hackey-sack lovin’, rock climbin’, mountain air breathin’ ex-intern showed up at our Pitchfork table in this garb:

We chatted briefly with the man who would be called P4k’s 2010 mascot by Flavorpill, and were left a little sad. We don’t know why he insisted on telling us that he was “cool now,” but this shirt begs to differ. Crony, we love you, and welcome you back into our office at anytime, but lose the glasses and burn the shirt.

Katie & the Catalogs

Meet our recently departed intern Katie Spencer. For the last four months she’s been on loan to us, and she did a kick-ass job packing orders, stickering LPs, stuffing envelopes, pulling mail order, and even manning a broom when the need arose. Yesterday was her last day, and as one of her final assignments we had her unload all of the Numero 2010 catalogs from the back of the car. She did it with a smile.

And here’s where you come in. Anytime you order a CD/LP/Poster/T-shirt/etc from the Numero store, a this glorious 24-page, full color, newsprint catalog will be placed in your order. You can marvel at our witty descriptions and even learn a little bit about the history of the catalog via Tom Lunt’s enlightening essay. Conversely, if you buy our stuff from your favorite real-life record store you can Paypal us $2 and we’ll send one out to you.

Danger in the office

A light bulb burned out in our foyer this afternoon.

Normally, I would just put it in the trash, but Boss Ken is super nerdy and cares about mercury poisoning or something lame like that.

I had to look up how to recycle light bulbs, and it proves to be a very difficult thing to do in the Southside of Chicago.

I was subsequently ordered to make this:

Hazardous Waste

Sticking on a bumper near you

We threatened to make them a month back, and now they’re here sitting in a box on our floor:

Bumper Sticker

After our lovely pressing plant offered to make us any bumper sticker for free to test out a new service, we sat around for all of twenty minutes coming up with this witty slogan. Inspired by our old intern Ben Cronin, this two-toned, weather proof bit of decal hilarity can be yours with any LP purchase, now until we run out of them. Word is they’ve quickly become a hit around the Rough Trade/Matador office, and if any of those cats owned cars you’d see them all over Manhattan in the coming weeks. Instead, this bizarre trend will have to begin with you and the sun-baked bumper of your beat up Saturn.

This episode finds Ben stickering our revamped Cult Cargo: Belize City, Boil Up LPs. As some of you may have noticed, the spine was out of wack and needed to be fixed. While we were at it we sharpened up the photos (and added a bunch more too), and fixed errors in the text. Numero completists will, of course, need to re-buy.

This episode finds Cronin getting in trouble with Ben & Billy from JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound for giving away some copies of their new album as promos at the Eccentric Soul Revue.
