When a mess of The Best Show recordings arrived at Numero Headquarters, it was the duty of Numero engineer Blake Rhein to sort through the media, tinker with file type and metadata, and make suitable masters for reproduction. The track listing had been decried by Jon and Tom, but it was the young, doe-eyed Rhein that listened to every single compact disc, to make sure there were no hiccups, skips, dropouts, or otherwise. Knowing little-to-nothing about the Best Show going into this task made Blake the perfect impartial tour guide for other uninitiated Numero employees. As more and more Numero allies acquainted and reacquainted themselves with the citizens of fictional Newbridge, New Jersey, Blake’s Choice Nugs stood as a pretty good introductory to the intimidating 14-disc behemoth. For those apprehensive about applying for a Newbridge visa, we figured this playlist might be appreciated. Enjoy!

Screen Shot 2015-05-21 at 3.43.17 PMLast Thursday, Tom Scharpling, Jon Wurster, and The Best of The Best Show box set made their conjoined national television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers. After a long day of press around midtown Manhattan, the fellas settled into the backstage area of Rockefeller Center’s studio 8G (adjacent studio 8H where SNL tapes). Several on the Late Night writing and producing staff checked in to congratulate Tom and Jon on the success of the boxed set and their recognition from late night television. Be sure to check out the entire interview—last segment on the video—and bear witness Late Night‘s first ever group hug. Big thanks to our incredible publicist Jacob Daneman at Pitch Perfect PR for making this happen.

Scharpling & Wurster on WTF with Marc Maron (w/ commentary)

MM_Dmitri_von_Klein_11 On the day that Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster were scheduled to appear on WTF with Marc Maron, there was one small snag: Marc had not yet received his box set. The Best Show architects had stuck the landing on their respective cross-country treks, but the box set that binds them was MIA. With only hours to spare, we scanned the shipping logs for confirmed Best Show recipients in Los Angeles. We recognized one name out of the lot, and called on M. Geddes Gengras with a unique question: Can Marc Maron have your Best of the Best Show box set? Gengras stepped up, and within the hour, Marc Maron was fondling a gently used copy of our latest release for the podcast you have before you. Enjoy! Listen to WTF with Marc Maron, guest starring Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster

Despite all the ruckus we’ve raised about this highly anticipated box set, Scharpling & Wurster: The Best Of The Best Show isn’t even technically out yet. That will all change Tuesday, May 12th, the technical release date for this 16 CD box set. On Thursday May 14th, Tom and Jon will be on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Two days later on May 16th, the dynamic duo performs live at Third Man Records in Nashville. Could this thing chart? Could it go platinum? They’ve become regulars on Pitchfork, appearing most recently in an entertaining segment called Situation Critical, wherein guests approximate what song would best suit one of several random scenarios. Warning: You will have “Holiday Road” stuck in your head more or less indefinitely. The duo also made an appearance on Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, which you can sneak a peak of here. Who knows how the planet will further shift once there’s 16 more discs of this insanity orbiting the comedy universe, but we’re excited to find out. In the meantime, there’s a brand new Best Show up now with Molly Shannon at the, where new shows appear weekly. Stay tuned!

When issues arise with a dinged corner, a scratched record, or a bubbly label, we try and offer top-notch customer service, quickly and efficiently. But the last week has been busier than usual with thousands of copies of Scharpling & Wurster: The Best Of The Best Show leaving our new warehouse. So if you tweeted us about something and we did not respond immediately, it’s because we were doing this:

IMG_0908All the packages you see with craft tape on them are ready to go. Those without craft tape need craft tape or all of the guts would fall out.

Here’s the other thing: The United States Postal Service fully hates us. Although we were following protocol and scheduling pick ups like dutiful customers, after filling our 25th mail van to the ceiling, our local branch blocked our number. We’ve remained on hold with customer service until the batteries in our cordless phone died on several occasions. It’s no use. So we rented this truck and all day we just fill it with packages and drive it to the central post office.

Each time we fill the truck, we drive it downtown and unload it at Chicago’s main postal facility. It goes on to that metal dolly and then it goes to you.

Then we drive it back to the new office and fill it back up with copies of Scharpling & Wurster: The Best Of The Best Show.

Tomorrow morning, this palette will filled with box sets again, which we will drive downtown again. Then they’ll bring them to you (assuming you ordered one).

We’re going to keep doing this until every last one of you has every last one of your items. So if you emailed us or messaged us or tweeted us (or all three), give us a day or two. We’re all hands on deck on behalf of The Best Show because these things are gorgeous, hilarious, they need happy homes, and plus we’re running out of cassettes to listen to.
